Role Overview
The Principal QA Engineer is a senior leadership role responsible for defining and executing a comprehensive QA strategy that ensures the delivery of high-quality software for Epicor ERP products. This individual will champion enterprise-wide quality initiatives, mentor QA teams, and architect scalable automation solutions. Working closely with product management, development, and DevOps, the Principal QA Engineer drives continuous improvement in testing practices, tools, and processes, aligning quality objectives with business goals. Ensuring top-quality software delivery across ERP and cloud-based products.
Core Responsibilities
- Analyze requirements and design full-stack QA tools (frontend, backend, APIs).
- Aid in designing and developing AI/ML-powered tools to enhance test automation, defect analysis, and QA reporting etc.
- Own and evolve the end-to-end QA strategy (manual, automated, performance, security)
- Act as SME in requirements reviews and design discussions for multiple modules
- Maintain the product functional-coverage matrix and identify high-risk “hotspots”
- Architect, build, and optimize a scalable test-automation framework (UI, API, performance)
- Integrate QA seamlessly into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI)
- Leverage IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation) for test-env provisioning on AWS/Azure
- Drive “shift-left” testing: reduce manual and automated regression cycle times
- Lead root-cause analyses and continuous-improvement initiatives
- Define and monitor QA metrics (automation coverage, defect escape rate, cycle time)
- Make release-readiness decisions and enforce quality gates
Leadership & Mentoring
- Coach and mentor QA leads, senior QAs, and developers on testing best practices
- Facilitate QA guilds/brown-bags to share lessons learned and new tools
- Support QA resource planning and skill development across the organization
Technical & Domain Skills
- ERP Testing: Deep knowledge of Epicor modules, data flows, and large-scale ERP QA
- Automation & Coding: Proficient in Python (unittest, pytest), Selenium, Cypress, Playwright
- AI/ML in QA: Familiar with AI-driven test generation, anomaly detection, predictive analytics
- DevOps/CloudOps: Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/Azure services,
- SDLC Integration: Strong understanding of Agile, DevOps practices, and QA’s role within them
- Tool Evaluation: Stay current with emerging QA tools, frameworks, and AI/ML testing solutions
